PSP firmware 6.3 update

If you have many downloaded games on your PSP, sorting through them all can also be rather annoying. Users of custom firmware on Sony's PSP have had the ability to sort their games into sub-categories inside the GAME folder using the gamescategories.prx file. Now, thanks to Sony's latest update, official users will also be able to group games together within the XMB. Hackers have derided the recent update as one more example of Sony lifting ideas in the homebrew community, but if it improves function of the system, we're all for it.

The other feature discovered within the new firmware update are two folders for NEO Geo and Turbo Grafx 16 games. We've known that Japanese PSPs would soon support these retro consoles for a while, but it is nice to see the feature coming to USA. And of course, this really is another area where Sony is still playing catch-up to custom firmware hackers, who were in a position to access 16-bit emulators for a long time.

Finally, the firmware update includes support for Playstation Plus, Sony's new paid subscription service that gives users accessy to totally free downloadable content each month.
